Equally important, it would seem to me, is the question of how
much of the Mendellsohn is in the arrangements. If it is the
entire octet, that's a bargain at $79. If it is one movement,
that may be a different story.

One of the unfortunate habits that exist in wind literature is
the idea of playing a movement of a much larger composition.
After a while, the movements get titled by the tempo indication;
i.e., "We are now going to hear the larghetto of Beethoven
followed by the Andante cantabile of Dvorak."

If people get spoon fed all the time, they are getting cheated.
The Brandt arrangement of the Beethoven op. 111, is the whole
work. It's a killer but it is the entire quartet.

About that arrangement of the Mendelssohn Octet for double
woodwind
quintet: it's rather expensive ($79, including shipping from UK
to USA),
so before purchasing, I'm wondering if anyone has played or heard
it.
If so, what did you think of it? ---Richard
