When you, as a player, know that nothing is ever going to go
wrong with your technique, and that there is nothing in the
literature that you cannot play flawlessly, there is nothing to
do but have a ball playing it.

If my dates are roughly accurate, Drucker came into the
Philharmonic not very long after Bellison retired and was
replaced by McGinnis. That is some span of clarinet playing
history!

When McGinnis left the orchestra to do something (maybe Indiana?)
and it did not work out for him, he came back to NY but couldn't
get any orchestral position. So one of the gigs he did for some
months was the band at the World's Fair, and then he played at
the Ringling Brothers Circus in the NY Band. It was
heartbreaking to see such a fine artist unable to get a position
worthy of his talents. It isn't that Drucker took steps to keep
him out. That was not the case at all. There was simply no room
in the orchestra for him.

And so, for around half a century, Stanley has had that position
and there is no end of the tunnel as long as he plays as
brilliantly as he does now.

I'm not sure if he holds the record with that orchestra, but if
it is not him, who else is it?

One of the joys of watching and listening to Drucker is that
after
all of these years, he still seems to be having a ball playing!
He is
a true inspiration.
