I remember Stanley's earliest season with the NYPhil. He started
as E-flat and McGinnis was first. What is even more amazing is
that he had had some time with the Rochester Phil. Say two years
to make my arithmetic work. 59th seasons with one orchestra, 2
with another, adds up to 61 seasons. Stanely and I are roughly
the same age. I think he is two or three years older. He's about
77.

So at roughly the age of 16 or 17 he began playing major league
clarinet, and he still going as strong as ever. A really
remarkable feat.

To me, he was always a clarinet playing machine, with 16
cylinders, and who never had occasion to use more than 10 or 11
cylinders. He had power in reserve that he never used.

Karl:

In all likelihood, you saw the New York Philharmonic's regular
clarinet
section. Your description of Stanley Drucker - 'he looks to
young to be
Stanley Drucker' - was one of the best I've every heard! He is
truly
amazing, now in his 59th season in the orchestra.
