I've just gotten home from a NY Philharmonic concert in Philadelphia, where
I heard an impressive performance of Bruckner's 7th Symphony. I'm always
curious about who the clarinetists are when I hear a visiting orchestra
here. The program lists Stanley Drucker (principal), Mark Nuncio (associate
principal), Pasqual Martinez Forteza and Stephen Freeman. Two clarinetists
played principal tonight - one in the reduced orchestra that accompanied an
excellent cellist, Alisa Weilerstein, in the Elgar Cello Concerto, and the
other in the Bruckner. Now, I know what Stanley Drucker looked like years
ago, but I haven't seen him play in a very long time. Both of these players
looked too young from my seat in the second tier to be Drucker. One (in the
Elgar) looked thin and had short, dark, curly hair. The Bruckner principal
wore glasses and had a full head of graying hair combed in a standard part
on one side. The second player was the same for both pieces - young looking,
also thin but with long dark hair.

Does anyone know who each of these players is likely to have been?

Karl
