Subj: [kl] Krommer - Clarinet Concerto in E Minor Op. 86 - Orchestral Parts
Date: Thu, 04 Jan 2007 12:37:26 -0500

Dear Tony:

Opps! My mistakes. Breitkopf indicates 1-2-2-0 0-0-0-0 str as
instrumentastions. Looking at their abbreviations, I realized that I
read the instrumentation in the wrong order. This piece calls for 1
flute, 2 oboe, 2 clarinets, 0 bassoon, 0 brasses, and the usual
complement of strings.

No problem. I just got off the phone with our student's clarinet teacher
(who is also the Director of the conservatoire), and we have a plan. One
way ot the other, we will produce orchestral parts (using students from
the orchestration class) using the resources we have (including an
excellent recording by Karl Leister).

We are spending all this time because this particular clarinet student
is one of the best young wind players in Ottawa these days. She has
entered our concerto competition, with finals in April. She (as well as
4 other young wind players) will be supported by our orchestra for the
final. It would be a real shame not to be able to feature her with full
orchestra, considering her talent and potential. She applied with the
Copland first, but was turned down by our Conductor because Copland is
too difficult for us (we are an excellent amateur orchestra, yet
amateurs nonetheless and Copland is outside our envelop...). She
reapplied again with Krommer, and we will do everything we can to make
it happen for her.

Santé!

Mario
