Bill, the Piazolla quartet is a real nice work. It's expensive, originally
arranged for sax quartet works well with clarinets. I would only do the work
with people who've spent time listening to lots of Piazolla, or it can be
frustrating. The lead part is written for either Bb or Eb clarinet, the 3rd is
written for Bb, alto, or basset horn and the forth is Bb or Bass. I would
never do it without the bass! I've played both the Eb and the Bass part and I
would use Eb only if someone has command of the Eb and more importantly
Piazolla tango style.
