Last time I checked, conventional wisdom* was that one should not
buy, or own, a basset horn. Rather, one should buy or own two
compatible basset horns. That way, if there are playing opportunities
around (usually for two horns), you only need to find a versatile
clarinet player to get the job, rather than having to find someone
else with a basset that matches yours.
