A Google search pulls up the Rico "retro" version of the Harrison which they
call the H-ligature. The first two links I got were to Muncy Winds Roberto's
in New York ($30-$35). I know the vintage Harrisons are few and far between
on Ebay, but you might suggest your friend give the new version a try. I had
an old, old Kaspar metal reverse ligature that was showing such signs of
stress and stretching that I put it away for good and tried several types of
ligatures that all seemed to serve me just as well. I know some of us tend
to stick with things like ligatures until they give up the ghost, but I
learned from my experience to keep a spare or backup if I found something
that worked particularly well. I still get the urge when I see an old Kaspar
lig on Ebay, but stick with what I have now, as I can buy it new for a third
or a fourth of what I'd pay on Ebay for something that may not last long
enough to make it worth the money.

On the flip side, I also learned I could adjust and make nearly anything
work to my satisfaction if need be.
