Well, if you didn't like it you didn't like it. It's just that I've
never heard a German basset horn that felt like an alto clarinet.

As I recall, the bore on German models is narrower than a modern alto
clarinet but wider than your Stephen Fox model---about the same as what
Steve calls his "medium bore" basset horn.
