If you're interested, you might want to check out the
contemporary arrangements of Andreas Tarkmann
(tarkmann.de/content/bearb_blaeser.html). He's an
oboist.

He's improved many of the Mozart opera harmonie
arrangements, in my vacuous opinion.

He has also done a marvelous arrangement of Smetana's
Bartered Bride that works really well in beer gardens.
And he has arranged music from Figaro for the same
instrumentation as the Gran Partita. He's also
arranged Schubert's Alfonso und Estrella, an opera
that you probably won't hear much in any other
arrangement.

By the way, I think the most effective opera harmonie
arrangement is Heidenreich's Magic Flute. But that's
just my opinion.
