That sounds wonderful. You had not told me that Chris Weait is
going to be there. Lovely man and a fabulous bassoonist.

I am sorry that you are not doing the Fidelio arrangement. That
one, in my opinion, is the finest of all the Harmoniemusik. The
Pathetique piano sonata is nice as is the Haydn Oxford Symphony,
but the Fidelio is astounding. However you have to have the
contrabassoon or string bass to play it. Otherwise it has no
bottom and the glorious canonical quartet called "Mir Ist So
Wunderbard" is an empty shell.

What are your dates for doing the program. As I told you, I will
be in Santa Fe in late January but only for 5 days.

Yes I did know it went down to one known set. That is now in the
Beethoven
Archive in Bonn. It is quite possibly by Sedlak, but the
identification is
not proven as far as I know. I didn't know you were instrumental
in reviving
it, Dan. Parts are now available from Compusic, Schottstaedt as
Laurence
says, and Ut Orpheus in a new arrangement by Destri. After Tony's
comments I
am going with the Compusic (and his transcription for C
clarinet).

Tony Pay and OAE played the Scherzo at the concert I heard, and I
enjoyed
that. It is a tone down from the orchestral original, and the
development of
the Finale is omitted.

The theme of this winter's Kammermusik, with Chris Weait
directing, is
"Symphonic Harmoniemusik", so it has to be tried! We are also
playing the
Mozart Linz, Prague and Paris symphonies (the Prague is in a
modern
arrangement by Geoffrey Emerson, which is very good, the other
two
contemporary) and Haydn #85 and #92. That should keep us busy for
a weekend.
