One item I did forget to mention for video editing is called
FilmGIMP, which is based on the GIMP (The GNU Image Manipulation
Program. It is the only FREE image program that makes Photoshop look
like a poor imitation of iPhoto)

I'd also recommend Lilypond, except it is VERY, VERY alpha software
(Meaning it's not ready for prime time).

The thing to remember about open source software like Neo Office,
Open Office, GIMP, and Lilypond is that the development for these
programs are done by several programmers, in their own free time.
They would appreciate any help they can get, especially if you are a
software programmer yourself. The source code for all Open Source
Software is freely available. Apple also makes their development
tools freely available, (and they are generally a front end to the
available tools in *nix, like GCC, python, perl, ruby, rails), so any
development projects that include ports to OS X, help would be
greatly appreciated.
