There are other reasons for which parents may opt to take the path of
least resistance, i.e., drop the lessons. I wouldn't dare get into
the matter without knowing more. My mom cancelled my lessons with my
first teacher (I was about 11 years old) when she heard him berating
me for not practicing enough. Dunno. It is more likely what Bob has
suggested.
