<<<This afternoon I heard a performance of an excellent new concerto for
clarinet and strings: "Summer Solstice" by Daniel Dorff. It is an engaging
work, lyrical and full of good humor. It was performed with brilliance and
sensitivity by Sean Osborn. The orchestra was the Philharmonia Northwest
conducted by Roupen Shakarian.

Dorff himself is a clarinetist and his writing reveals a mastery of the
instrument. You can find out more at his website:

Alas, whilst I am in a zip code not too far removed, my required presence at
a family pre-Thanksgiving festival prevented me from attending. I am fans
of both Sean and Roupen; hopefully they will combine forces again.

I've also had the opportunity to play some of David's pieces, primarily
featuring saxophone. He is a fine composer in his own right. If we're nice
to him, perhaps he'll grace us with another work?
