Nancy, thank you so much for being persistent! My husband and I flew from
Washington, D. C. to California to visit our parents this fall. He flew
into Los Angeles and I flew into San Francisco. We each decided not to
take instruments this time, because (from two different airlines) we
couldn't get reliable-sounding, consistent answers to those questions and
neither of us was willing to risk being told at the airport that we'd have
to send the instruments as checked baggage. I don't think I'm going to try
carrying on my Eb contra-alto in its 4-1/2 ft. case next time, but then I
wouldn't have tried to schlep that on board before the new restrictions,
either! Sounds as if a soprano clarinet should be okay, with the cork
grease in the 1-quart plastic bag with the miniature hand lotion. Good to
know a link to take along, too, in case some of the airport personnel are
still on bar fourteen while the rest of us think we're on bar
twenty-six.... Thank you again!
