Subj: [kl] Introduction and Question

Hi everyone!!!
I am new to the list, so I thought I'd introduce myself. My name is
Angelia. I started playing clarinet in the fifth grade (more than 20 years
ago, but let's not dwell on that!); I originally planned to be an orchestral
musician, but injured my arm practicing for spring juries my sophomore year
of college. It took more than a year to get that straightened out, by which
time I had run out of money to finish school. Now I consider myself to be a
very serious amateur. Living in a *very* small town, I seldom get the
chance to play in public, except special music for church. (You should see
what I've gotten myself into for Christmas!!) My grandmother, both my
parents, and my younger sister are all chronically ill, and I've spent the
last five or six years in what felt like a constant state of crises.
Everyone seems to be more or less stabilized now, and I finally have time to
actually PLAY the clarinet instead of just using it to blow off steam.

Which brings me to my question. I recently purchased a copy of Robert
Schumann's Fantasy Pieces, op. 73, transposed for Bb, because I don't have
an A clarinet. This puts the third movement in B. In measure 16 (third and
fourth beats), I have g# (top of staff), c# (third space from the bottom),
d#, e--all eighth notes, pretty fast tempo. Does anyone know of an
alternate fingering for the g#? The only one I've been able to find (one
and two on both hands) does not work on my clarinet. It plays, but sounds
like the thing is stuffed with cotton. Can't use the right hand c#, because
of the d#, and I've never seen an alternate for the d#. Of course, the best
solution would be to get an A and play a, d, e, f, but since it took me
three months to save enough pennies to get the music, that's not going to
happen any time soon :-(. If anyone knows of any thing that would help, I'd
really appreciate it!

Thanks,
Angelia
