I don=E2=80=99t believe that was the case Tony. Admittedly this was only =
one performance from a couple of years ago. However I was listening =
pretty intently. In my memory at least, you played the notes =E2=80=9Cas =
usually notated=E2=80=9D. I think you played it at a softer dynamic and =
there may be other subtle changes that you made that were perhaps not so =
audible in the Festival Hall.=20
I do know that you and Dan do have slightly different opinions on this. =
I am merely trying to educate myself so that I can justify it one way or =
another to anybody, including students. One of the ways I can do that, =
given that I live in New Zealand, is to ask people like yourself and Dan =
so that I am able to form my own opinion based on at least some measure =
of knowledge =E2=98=BA I also asked Michael Whight the same question, =
having received the CD of his performance. His answer was =
=E2=80=9CIsn=E2=80=99t the theme beautiful enough without any =
embellishment?=E2=80=9D This is also a very true statement. I will say =
that any embellishment in that theme (K622 Second movement) in my =
opinion, while often welcome, would need to be carefully thought about =
so it is not made a showpiece, not intrudes too much into the music as =
originally conceived. =20

I am glad you decided to respond as I looked forward to hearing what you =
had to say =E2=80=93 as I usually do.
