On my R13 A clarinet and my E11 C clarinet, one note in the upper register
(A) has a strange crackling sound, quite hard to describe.
It is like a rasp, or a false note on a violin. Only the A, not Ab or
Bb.>>>>>>

On the A clarinet, particularly, many people report a "wolf-tone" on the
clarion A. This is due to an overly long register tube on clarinets made in a
certain time period. This has been amply discussed on this list. The solution
is to have the register tube removed, shortened, then replaced.

I have not heard of this on a C clarinet, before, but it is possibly due to
the same cause.

Certain people maintain that the tone holes under the third finger left
hand, on many clarinets, is too small, and needs to be reamed.
