the First” concert series at First Unitarian Church, 569 S. 1300 East in

Roens and Stan Funicelli will also be presented.

Contemporary Music Consortium performers will include CMC Director
Laurel Ann Maurer, flute; Robert Walzel, clarinet; Nicole Jackson,
cello; Melissa Livengood, piano, Cheryl Hart, soprano and guest artist

through the generous support of ZAP, Utah Arts Council, Salt Lake City
Arts Council and private and corporate donations.

Presenting exciting and innovative concerts of contemporary music for
various combinations from solo artists to large chamber ensemble, The
Contemporary Music Consortium continues to receive rave reviews for its
creative programming and high level of performance.

Flutist Laurel Ann Maurer is the Director of the CMC. She has won awards
from the National Association of Composers USA, the National Flute
Association, the National Orchestra of New York, the Chautauqua
Institute and the Utah Arts Council. She has appeared as flute soloist
throughout the United States and Europe, with performances at Carnegie
Hall, Lincoln Center and the Kennedy Center. At the forefront of her
career is her dedication to contemporary music. She has commissioned
many works for flute, compelling many fine composers to comment on her
performance of their works. Otto Luening wrote, "She projects composer’s
ideas with authority and elegance." Joan Tower has written, "Thanks so
much for doing such an outstanding job...this performance [was] one of
the best I've received." Augusta Read Thomas said, "Bravo! We composers
need you." Meyer Kupferman has called her playing "Truly sensational."
