This is very exciting and I wish you well for the performances.

However, I did not play the work in Christchurch. What happened
was that one of the clarinet players contacted me and we talked
about some of the issues involved in playing the work. What
interested me most was that the performance in Chirstchurch is
the southernmost performance on earth, Christchurch being the
southernmost location that has a symphony orchestra.

There was simply something very exciting about that.

No. I remember that you did a performance of it in Christchurch
some years
ago - and I think you had to borrow bassets from Australia. (The
NZSO does
have a set, but they are in very poor condition and they are
loathe to hire
them out. I believe they have ordered a new pair).

These performances will be in Hamilton - semi -outdoor - and
Tauranga, in a
superb restaurant that used to be a ferry in its earlier days -
now safely
moored but still on the water.
The organization paying for the performance bought two basset
horns last
year for our first performances of this last year. The
performance is being
repeated due to public demand :):)

The rest of the program is Dvorak and an arrangement of the
Rossini
Variations for clarinet with wind octet (and double bass)
