I don't think he played an eingang plus a cadenza, I should have been
clearer (and yes I know the difference, learned from you!).

He played what I would describe as a cadenza-like eingang, not merely a
brief transition from dominant to tonic. It was one or two minutes of
cadenza-like stuff, so you could call it a very, very, very over-elaborate
eingang I suppose, in that he went from dominant to tonic eventually. I have
no idea whether he did it on the spot or had it prepared. I thought the
style jarred.
