From: "James Fay" <fay.james@-----.net> Subj: [kl] Flat pitch on older clarinets Date: Tue, 17 Oct 2006 18:58:00 -0400
Recently I've noticed (on my over 40 yr old R-13 Bb) that the pitch =
seems to
be getting lower, such that I have to warm it up by playing for about a =
half
hour to get it up to 440Hz, using a 65.5 barrel. This makes it tough =
going
in band concerts!
Got horn from Hans Moennig in 1964 and have been playing it since then,
currently with a Gennusa mouthpiece.
I think I once heard Morrie Backun say that sometimes the bore shrinks =
on
older (or dry) horns.
Any thoughts?
