I played eefer on the overture or medley or whatdeyecall it for John
Williams' "The Cowboys" movie score during our last pops concert. A
couple of mercifully brief sessions with it during that piece before
retreating to the safety of the Bb in the 2nd part I was playing. The
high note was the concert A, which one has to climb on and off of
during a series of intervals that possibly wouldn't be so bad on a
clarinet that has room to operate it with more than one finger.

Of course, the composer/arranger generally has high notes in mind when
he or she decides to employ the Eb in the orchestra, but gads, I wish
I wasn't having to operate the thing in the high register all the
time. I never did like what I was seeing on the tuner during practice
sessions.

You'll be surprised to learn that our picc player and I began to have
words during that set of rehearsals...
