Ellie,

I wrote a duet for clarinet and marimba called Three Greek Dances. =20
The dances are stylized by preserving the flavor of the dances while =20
treating the material in a more developmental and contrapuntal =20
manner. Kalamationos is the most popular Greek dance and is =20
Peloponnesian in origin. Like its cousin, the Syrtos the national =20
dance of Greece, it is in 7/8 meter grouped as 3-2-2. The Syrtos is a =20=

more dragging dance while the Kalamationos is more bouncy. Zeibekiko =20
has its origin in the Eastern Aegean Islands. It is in 9/4 meter at a =20=

slow tempo with a lot of syncopation. This movement is written in 3/4 =20=

for the ease in reading but preserves the phrasing of 9/4 most of the =20=

time. Hassapikos is a buthcher=92s dance in 2/4 time with eight measure =20=

phrases. It begins moderately and increases tempo throughout the =20
dance. You can see and hear the music at http://=20
cooppress.hostrack.net/threegreekdanceshome.htm

I hope this helps you.
