Tom,

On the first point, you did take a statement of mine out of context. What I
was trying to say -- and maybe I did not say it as well as I could have --
is that from the standpoint of an amateur (or a student on the path), the
reason to seek a "second opinion" is sometimes to get the collective wisdom
of many pros as to whether or not a specific piece of (very expensive)
equipment may be especially useful or not -- compared to other uses for the
money -- for improving. Were a student or hobbyist in my own field to ask me
which professional tools I think she or he should purchase as opposed to
others (for the same amount of money), I would have an informed opinion
(after 30 years) as to which was best, and I would also have a second
informed opinion as to whether it was necessary to spend the money at all.
And I would also point that person toward other professionals I know have
different opinions than I do.

On the second point, if I mistakenly characterized you as a Backun artist, I
apologize. I recalled that you have characterized yourself as such in
disclaimers on the Clarinet BB and I may have recalled this incorrectly (I
did not go back and check this). Other than what I have seen in your BB
posts or emails, I have no information about any financial or other
professional arrangements you may or may not have with various equipment
developers.

George

I keep hearing I'm a "Backun" artist, but so is anyone playing Morrie's
products. I play them because, for me, I know they sound better. I also
feel they
make playing, for me, easier. Will they do that for you? I don't have a
clue.
