Tom,
I think you are being a little tough on folks with this post on aftermarket
equipment. As you know (as a Backun artist), a lot of the aftermarket stuff
is pretty expensive, especially if it is a hobbyist or a high school student
saving up for a "dream purchase" [that cannot be tax deducted as it could be
by a pro, at least in the USA]. Someone seeking the second opinion of a pro
such as yourself, may also be asking for advice from those more experienced
whether adding a Backun bell or barrel or mouthpiece to a clarinet might
help one advance much faster as they learn to play better over time. That
may not be what a pro is looking for -- an immediate result -- but for
hobbyist or upcoming student, aftermarket equipment is often a way to LEARN
and PROGRESS faster. Second opinions from more experienced folks about what
equipment can help you progress faster and further are especially valuable
for this latter group (which includes me).

I would like to add on thing to the discussion about any and all after
market equipment, Including clarinet, mouthpieces, barrels and bells. If
you need
a second opinion don't buy it. Anything you add to your "gig" rig should
solve a problem or make playing easier and most likely sound better. If
YOU
don't notice it, what does someone else's opinion matter? especially if
they
haven't heard you play.
