On a lighter note, I once hired a clown for my girls 2nd birthday and she
not only had a yellow clarinet but a red sax as well. The sound she produced
was a happy one. Everyone seemed to love her & her playing. Everyone
remembers her for her colorful choice of instruments. I guess there's a
place for all instruments that are created. Kind of like us. She did tell me
this, "My son is a music teacher, and he tells me that the player makes the
instrument not the other way around" Go figure, I was speechless.

This reminded me of when I started out way back in the dinosaur years. My
father would not hear of buying me an expensive clarinet. So he bought me
one at Spiegel, which was then called The Blue Book(yikes). With that
plastic clarinet that I used for 3 years, I was first chair! When my father
finally decided that he would let me make music a career he bought me a
Buffet. Which I have tenderly cared for more than my children (just
kidding), but I have taken much care of it. I love that dark tone. Back to
reality, I still have my first plastic clarinet stored away for sentimental
values. I would use it for marching (hehehe). Being a parent myself now, I
would probably do the same thing. I mean $200.00 on an instrument for a
child that may or may not like music after all is too much to spare. Well
maybe if I was Britney Spears or Jennifer Lopez I could spare the pocket
change. Just thought I'd put in my 2 cents worth.

I will say this, which ever instrument that I play or test, I still get a
good strong sound. Always!! It may or may not be the mouthpiece and setup,
but I don't know, since I'm not a professional like most folks in here.

Musically,
Myrna
