I've tried three times to send this. Once I typed the address in the
address bar, twice I hit "reply". All three times, sending to

WHAT AM I DOING WRONG?

Dan,

While I respect your opinion with regards to the two dots over the
manuscript of a sketch of a concerto that was later re-written, I disagree
with it, and think there is ample reasoning to play a half note Bb for the
measure in question.

1) a second beat half note is one of the prime rhythmic motives of the
first movement, and occours multiple times in the clarinet part (I never
mentioned the violin parts). There is only ONE occourance of two quarters.
Playing two quarters would be motivically inconsistent with the rest of the
piece.

2) It could very well be someone else's dots, or a smudge, or a coffee
stain. Though I don't really think it's a smudge - it COULD be.

3) Composers often change their minds from sketches to final manuscripts
and from final manuscripts to first editions. I believe a half note, which
is motivically consistent, was probably a change Mozart made. I only
BELIEVE this. I have no evidence of this, I do not KNOW this. But, a half
note fits better, in my opinion, so that is what I will play.

>About the problems of playing the clarinet part in the
>Barenreiter edition and the orchestra parts in anyone else's
>edition (such as Kalmus, B&H, etc.) what did you do?

I'm going to buy cheap parts, make changes such as the rubato I do and this
note change in all the parts, and then send them to the orchestra to use
because I only have one rehearsal before the show.

As for the repetitions of the A rondo theme (btw, the form of the piece is
ABACABA), I haven't found ornamentation of the main, 8-bar theme that I
like, except for the occasional turn. It's a pretty notey theme - not much
room for ornaments. I do like to play the final version slower than the
tempo of the piece, with some nice ritards, then accellerate through the
final repetitions of the last two bars of the A theme.
