Hi,
sure there were and still are makers who made or make both Ab and G
clarinets at their current pitch. What I meant is that, as far as I know,
the Schrammeln-pitch was high, i.e. their picksuesses hoelzl, though
designated G, was actually an Ab by modern standards. In so far there is a
vast repertoire, provided you have a nice Viennese instrument.
I might add that the original Ab clarinet is actually the clarinette d'amour
(lower octave). In this case however there really does not seem to be any
music extant, is there?

Best, danyel

Also a correction to Danyel. The Ab is definitely a separate instrument from
the high G as may be seen from 19-century makers' and sales catalogues.
