Hi Dan,
No, it wasn't Stalder. I knew him already. I also heard him speak and demonstrate the walking stick clarinet at the Swiss Clarinet Society meeting in Winterthur last week.

I wonder if it could have been Hans Deinzer? I met him about 20 years ago in Hannover but it was short and long ago. I didn't recognize him now (if that was him). I did see his basset clarinet in A about two years ago in Berlin. In fact, I should have played on it but I found it too complicated for performing on at a moment's notice.
