Subj: [kl] Concert Announcement - Seattle
Date: Tue, 19 Sep 2006 17:10:50 -0400

Dear friends,

It's that time of year again, when I gather some of Seattle's finest
clarinetists together for our free concert and geek-fest. This year, in
celebration of turning 250, we're doing all Mozart, including his Concerto,
Duet #3, and Divertimento #4 for three Basset Horns - or is it Hounds, I
never can remember.

Anyway, should be great fun, and I hope you can attend. Please tell your
friends and neighbors, and keep watch in your email for many upcoming
concerts this fall featuring yours truly.

Stodgy press-release-style info to follow.

Cheers,

Sean

Clarinettissimo VI - All Mozart

PONCHO Hall, Kerry Hall, Cornish College of the Arts, 710 E Roy St., Seattle
Admission FREE
Music of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
Performing: Sean Osborn, Jennifer Nelson, Mary Kantor, clarinets, with
Roger Nelson, Piano
Concert contact: Sean Osborn (206) 368-7091

Former Metropolitan Opera Clarinetist Sean Osborn presents the
Sixth Annual Clarinettissimo concert. The free, educationally-based
concert is presented each fall. Students and clarinet lovers are
especially encouraged to attend. The pieces, their compositional devices,
and their historical context will be spoken about before each is performed,
in a relaxed and casual atmosphere. Musician jokes may also make an
appearance.

In celebration of his 250th birthday, this year's Clarinettissimo
will be all-Mozart. The program will have some discussion of Mozart's love
for the clarinet, and his muse, lodge-mate, and drinking-buddy Anton
Stadler. The program begins with the Clarinet Concerto in A Major, K. 622
- Mozart's last concerto and orchestral work. After the intermission, Ms.
Nelson will join Mr. Osborn on Mozart's Duet No. 3 in F for Two
Clarinets. Ms. Nelson and Ms. Kantor will then break out the basset horns
for Divertimento No. 4 in F for Three Basset-Horns.

Sean Osborn has traveled the US and Europe as soloist and chamber
musician, and traveled the world during his eleven years with the
Metropolitan Opera Orchestra. He has also appeared as principal clarinet
with the New York Philharmonic, Pittsburgh Symphony, Seattle Symphony, and
the American Symphony Orchestra. The New York Times dubbed him "...an
excellent clarinetist," the Boston Globe called him "...a miracle." Osborn
is currently on the faculty of the Cornish College of the Arts, and the
University of Washington.

Jennifer Nelson, Dash Point native, is currently Principal Clarinet with
the Pacific Northwest Ballet and the Auburn Symphony Orchestras. She also
has a very active freelance career, including playing with the Seattle
Symphony and Opera Orchestras, and records for various television and
motion picture scores, and is on the faculty at the University of Puget Sound.

Clarinetist Mary Kantor is currently principal clarinetist with the
Bellevue Philharmonic and the Seattle Choral Company. As a soloist, she has
performed the Mozart Concerto and Richard Strauss' Duet-Concertino with
Philharmonia Northwest. She has also performed with the Seattle Symphony,
Seattle Opera, Pacific Northwest Ballet, and the Northwest Chamber
Orchestra, as well as on numerous movie soundtracks, and is Professor of
clarinet at SPU.

A member of the Cornish faculty since 1979 and Chair from 1981 to 1983,
Roger Nelson performs frequently as a pianist and conductor. He conducted
the Bainbridge Orchestra (1987-2000) and was the pianist with the New
Performance Group from 1979-1997. He currently conducts the Seattle
Creative Orchestra and plays with TANEKO, a resident trio at Cornish.
