Subj: [kl] A fascinating little bit of clarinet history
Date: Tue, 19 Sep 2006 13:32:40 -0400

While doing research on the estate of Leopold Mozart following
his death, I reviewed the auction of the various items in his
estate. What I found was that Anton Stadler not only was at the
auction, but he bought the very last item in the sale. Here is my
note a technical paper on the subject.

"The last item in the inventory, sold to clarinetist Anton
Stadler for 2 florins and 14 kreuzers (with an initial bid of 1
florin and 30 kreuzers) was a Notten lagier, which Angemüller
clarifies as a ‘note stand.’"

You may find this duller than dishwater, but my heart leapt when
I read the detail.
