I have talked to Martin many times at the MidWest Clinic in Chicago and
heard Linda perform his concerto a few years ago at the MidWest Clinic.
She and I spent some time together and both of them seem to be wonderful
people. They are married but do not make a big deal about it. They are
great musicians independent of each other and had independent careers
before they were married...not too long ago.

As for the concerto itself I have the conducting score and the premiere
recording (Linda playing). It is a very good work for the combination
thought there are some balance issues at times. The formal development
relies a little too much on the repetition of ideas rather than the
development of those musical ideas, but overall would be a good piece to
program.

Here is a question for you. I am mostly about selling music (books
and
CDs) and try to avoid offending anyone who is a potential customer.

Recently someone asked me to get the Martin Ellerby Clarinet Concerto
(for clarinet and wind band; there is a piano reduction) which was
written for Linda Merrick (UK). In the course of looking for
information on this and tracking down the publisher and distributor, I
came across a three page article in The Clarinet about this piece by
Merrick (Vol 31, No. 2. March 2004, page 6). There is also some cross
promotion on their respective web sites.

What none of these sources say is that they are married to each other
(according to the Philip Sparke web site). Now I expect this is
probably well known in the UK, but it seems somewhat disingenuous for
a
Clarinet magazine article published in the US not to mention this.
Nothing is mentioned about this in the notes to the concerto, either.
