Subj: [kl] Bryan's comments about "best" concerti
Date: Wed, 13 Sep 2006 19:19:07 -0400

One cannot argue with taste. Bryan's comments about the Mozart
concerto being easy are his opinion. My opinion exactly the
opposite. It is extremely difficult to play intelligently. While
the technical demands are not severe, the musical demands are
extraordinary. And beyond that, it requires a knowledge of how a
certain era of music was played, and very few clarinetists have a
grasp of that problem. This is why so many performances of K. 622
sound alike. One could unplug one player, and plug in another
without missing a beat.

Bottom line is that Bryan and I have a serious difference of
opinion. But it is only that, not a statement of truth or
falsity.

And there is still too much "best concerto" going on.
