While I'm trying not to get on the Best Concerto judging panel, I was
glad to see the Finzi come up in discussion. Sean left off a lot of
really good ones, such as:
Crusell F minor (I think Tony has a good recording of this)
Hindemith
Corigliano
In an inspiring season at the LA Phil in the 80's, Michele Zukofsky
performed these two last wonderfully.
Let's also consider:
Joan Tower (performable with piano)
And, if you are looking for excitement, Eino Rautavaara. Stolzman has a
very convincing recording. (He also does an interesting job on a
concerto by Stephen Hartke (different CD), btw.)
