Having studied the Adams and Nielsen concertos extensively, I think the
Adams is a magnificent work. According to the information my teacher gave me
he found his father's clarinet after his death with the Nielsen music
wrapped around the case.
Then, I was told he, set out to write a more difficult work than Nielsen -
even using the same metronome marking at the beginning. (crotchet = 72 from
memory).
The third movement of the Adams is extraordinarily beautiful - with a very
moving call to "Put your Loving Arms around me...". The first movement is
typically minimalist in style. Recorded by Michael Collins who played the
first performances and also played last year superbly by Michael Whight -
who performed the Weber #2 only one week later!!!

Published by Boosey and Hawkes, and no doubt available from Gary van Cott. I
highly recommend it for advanced study - marvelous for technique and
.possibly more "audience friendly" than the Nielsen (which is also a great
work!)
