I played some concerts with an oboe player last year. She would give a 442
A. Then as soon as she actually started playing, she would go right up to 444.
She wouldn't believe me, until I showed her on my tuner. I would have to
calibrate it to 444 before the needle would stop jumping 20 cents into the red.

There is a local orchestra that I no longer play with. One of the reasons is
the pitch level. The conductor pounces on people who are "flat" but never
those who are "sharp". As a result, the whole group plays in the stratosphere.

In one rehearsal, the trumpets were SO HIGH, my ears heard their entrance as
a modulation. I was so shocked, I stopped playing........ I literally ached
for the rehearsal to end....
