I've performed with groups in Germany, Austria and England, and found that
the pitch varied widely. Salzburg was 443-4, England 442, Germany 442+. The
Los Angeles Phil tunes to around 443-444 these days. Salonen wants that
'crisp Euro sound" (read: sharp). Some of the players are going nuts trying
to reliably stay up there. Michele Zukovsky bought a new set of 443
Wurlitzers, to accommodate the change. She uses them in our quartet and is
somewhat sharp
