Subj: [kl] Persistent Intonation Problem
Date: Sun, 27 Aug 2006 21:47:54 -0400

Hi, everyone!

I'm hoping someone can give me some helpful advice
here. I've been playing clarinet for nearly 25 years
now, but only seriously picked it back up 3 years ago.
I currently play in our church's praise band, and I
am having a persistent problem with playing flat. I
have a wood Buffet but I'm afraid I don't know
anything more about its specific make/model. (It
would've been made in 1987 or so.) The mouthpiece is
handmade, with the inscription of Pyne M13B on it.
Reverse ligature (Buffet), and I play Mitchell Lurie
reeds 4 or 3-1/2. (As you can tell, I am most
definitely an amateur.)

I've had it overhauled within the last year. I've
tried different reed strengths, better diaphragm
support, different lip positions, etc. I know it is
really hard to diagnose the problem with such limited
information, but does anyone have a suggestion? If
so, I would greatly appreciate it.

I am willing to take it back in to be checked, but I'm
wondering if it's operator problems or if it's
instrument problems. ???

Thanks in advance,

Mary Beth Moore

If you can't be kind, at least have the decency to be vague.
