I was fortunate to see him in a different light in 1993. He performed at a
Zildjian event during the NAMM show in Anaheim, and played two hours of just
laid-back jazz with a quartet, no stratospheric wailing. It was really a
treat because no one I met there had seen and heard that side of him before.
It was wonderful, and you could tell he was having fun.
