Thank you, Dan, for pointing this out. I've only listened to the
Copland, but I found it a revelation. I'm mostly familiar with this
concerto from Benny Goodman's recording, but Bryan's performance made
me realise that Goodman seemed to miss much of the humour in the second
movement. I have heard other performances, but they're often coldly
clinical compared even to Goodman.

It set off a train of thought, if not an original one. Are modern
performers so obsessed with being note perfect for the recording
industry that they lose all spontaneity? Do we need to look to second
line performers (sorry Bryan) to find real musical insights?

What a pity that the two clips on Bryan's website miss out most of the
cadenza.
