Tom,

You shouldn't need the cork grease for each assembly. I use Buffet cork grease from 1975. Kind of a vaseline like color, but not texture. I use grease on my corks no more often than once a year and get 20-30 years of life out of most corks. My mouthpiece cork is only 10 years old and may need a new cork soon.
