I attended the fest. The security at the airport for my return trip
(ATL to EWR) was VERY visible. I had decided to put EVERYTHING into
my checked bag to avoid problems. In terms of security, there were
soldiers with large dogs at the entrance to the airport. We had to
remove our shoes and belts and everything in our pockets. My picture
ID was checked at the baggage check when I arrived and AGAIN after
going through the metal detector into the sterile area by the
gates. However, the process was very fast- 10 minutes at the most,
if that. This was at 4PM on a Sunday afternoon. Personally, I would
have no problem putting cork grease into my checked bag, but I would
carry my mouthpiece with me- perhaps in a belly pack. BTW, my
digital camera WAS in my belly pack and they did not open the belly
pack after it came through the X ray machine. On the way TO the
fest, they DID stop me and check my carry on after it went through
the X ray machine. Turns out the 9 cans of tuna I was carrying put
up a red flag. Why tuna?... For whatever reason I always like to
carry some food- just in case. So? :)
