I'm looking for some information regarding the Yamaha range of clarinets.

Just a brief outline of the story.

A prospective student of mine went ahead and purchased a clarinet from Ebay.
The item was described as below:
Up for sale is a wooden yamaha Sterling clarinet. It is in good condition. The
clarinet comes complete with ligature, mouthpiece and reeds, cork grease,
mouthpiece cover. Here are some words from an old catalogue describing this
series: "A medium-priced clarinet which is acceptable to the skilled
professional musician. As in pre-war days, these clarinets are built from a
special reserve of choice grenadilla ebony, aged and seasoned exclusively for
the manufacture of yamaha ycl-24 Sterling models" This clarinet was made in
japan. A Yamaha case is included, which is in perfect working order, but is a
bit scuffed on the outside. I'm not sure what year the clarinet was
manufactured but the serial number is 017269 if that is of any use.

Now, you and I all know that the YCL-24 is NOT a wooden, professional model...
But that it is a resonite student model. And after the family had found this
out upon arrival, complained immediately to the seller to be told "TOO BAD".

I don't know too much about the Yamaha range of clarinets, other than that my
first was a C100, and infact I was sure that the Sterling series was not even
a Yamaha model!?!

If there is anyone out there who has a good knowledge of the Yamaha range that
can give me any more information on this clarinet, before I go in to bat for
this family, I would be glad to hear from you.

PS..... If anyone knows where you can do a serial number search for the Yamaha
YCL-24 I would be glad to know.
