I don't quite understand the purpose of this conversation or this
particular answer. While I don't find the practice satisfactory,
one could always argue that you need only one clarinet and the
ability to transpose well. So this argument about price
backfires badly. If you want to save money, don't buy a B-flat
clarinet. Buy only an A and transpose everything.

At the Metropolitan opera for years, Benny Amato worked with one
clarinet, an A. And in Italy today, many poor families find it
impossible to buy two clarinets for a student. So the student
learns to transpose.

And insofar as how many it takes to tango, one could argue that
it takes three to tango. What?? You don't transpose C clarinet
parts? So from where did this concept of instrumental purity
suddenly arise.

Fundamentally, it is an argument without a bottom.

I will explaine my self:
AN oboe - is one instrument but A clarinet is a pair - if you
have only Bb - you can't play Mozart, Schumann etc.
Its takes two clarinets to Tango.

About mouthpueces - we definetly have a much better deal then
oboes and bassoons.
