Hello all,

I have a friend that recently purchased a six key boxwood clarinet in Bb
made by Goulding & Co., London, circa 1825.

The clarinet does not have any cracks in the wood, but one of the square
brass keys is missing and he is trying to locate a repair person in the
US (hopefully) that may be able to make a key for it that would match.

I advised him that many repair shops will not be able to help him
because of a lack of knowledge about this type of clarinet, or simply
because doing a good job may be time consuming and they may not be
interested in doing that kind of work. Sure enough, he had one large
repair shop look at it and they told him that they were not willing to
do the work because it would not be profitable for them.

I have a feeling that the work needed is a little more specialized and
just not mainstream enough for most people to be willing to do it. I
have done some searches on the web and have not come up with any real
leads yet as to who to contact about possibly making a key for it. I
know that somewhere out there in clarinet land there has to be someone
that could do this kind of work.

Any suggestions or leads would be much appreciated. Please feel free to
contact me privately if you like.

Thanks,

Tom Henson
