Actually,

The philosophy, or approach, is 90% of the game IMO.
You CAN teach a student philisophically if you so
choose with great success. I teach everybody that way.

However, you took what I said all wrong. My
educational philosophy is teach anybody who wants to
learn, regardless.

I have a student with CP which greatly effects his
right hand....were working around that. Weve fixed his
left hand position entirely and he has a modified
posture for his situation. His mental approach is more
important than the physical aspects of playing. Thats
why hes improving.

I teach a 4th grader who has very small hands, yet
when he approaches the instrument correctly he can
play everything between low E and thumb C. with ease.
Physically he has 2 things to worry about....wrinkling
his top lip and laying the pads of his fingers on the
keys. Thats it!

So, do I teach allcomers? Yes. Do I care if there are
issues? No. Why out- coach myself? Why waste my time
trying to think of every possible thing that will go
wrong(a very Clarinet player thing to do. Being a
Bassist I have to break so many students of this habit
that is so habitual on this list) when I can be using
that energy to teach my kids? I can teach anybody. I
truly believe that. If I didnt my students wouldnt
learn a thing. Period.
