Here's an idea.

Have the family buy one of Omar Henderson's Forte C Clarinets. At $749 they
are an incredible bargain. Since the instrument is smaller and shorter, the
keys will be easy to reach for a youngster. Since it is a C instrument, you
can pick all kinds of music to play. If the child besides to continue, she can
later buy a Bb clarinet and still have the C to play.
