I have some reservations about teaching an 8 year old the clarinet
but if it is a genuine enthusiasm on her part and the few physical
problems can be overcome, the enthusiasm at this age can overcome
most other problems. I have used the Lyons instrument and the Vito in
these instances. I think the Vito has the smallest RH3 vent and this
can solve the problem of coverage for small fingers. This vent on the
Yamaha is particularly large, a pity as it is a fine instrument.

I simply suggest the possibility that she could learn more music on a
cello and that staying with it and switching later may be in her

now and the girl's feelings toward the cello are, I think, important
ingredients in the decision.
