Hi Ronald,

I remember you, though you probably don't remember me. I was a
clarinetist out in the fleet bands, stationed in San Diego when you went
to the Academy. I knew Rick D. when he taught at the School of Music
way back when (1983 or so)

I remember hearing about the book you wrote on making reeds. I always
admired the patience ANYONE who makes their own reeds has to have. I
know that it drove me crazy just to work on reeds OTHER people make!
Part of the challenge for me is that I don't have a very steady hand,
and I also have trouble getting my reed knife sharp enough to do such
fine work. I tend to have to use sand paper most of the time to do the
later scraping, or reed rush. It just ends up being more aggravation,
and I'd rather be playing than messing with reeds.

That said, good luck with making some more reeds. I'll be checking the
list to see your progress with them. Quite a few people on this list
make their own reeds, so you are definitely not alone by any means.
